Are you a young teenage girl asking any female around that you trust what are the signs of your first period? Completely normal because one of the most worrying events during this time in life can be when is your first period is going to occur. You may even avoid doing things out of concern it may happen then.
One way to alleviate some of your first period, aka menarche, anxiety is knowing typical signs and symptoms that indicate menstruation is nearing or has taken place. Although, menarche menstruation is notoriously unpredictable.
For most, first menstruation takes place sometime between 10-15 years old. I know, a five year spread is a broad timespan for predicting the first of many periods. One sign that might provide a more precise estimate is two years after your breasts started their development. Not sure when that was?
Alright, a relatively conspicuous sign that menarch menstruation is likely on its way is the presence of vaginal discharge. This fluid can deposit into your underwear without warning and may be yellowish, whitish or clear. Discharge usually begins about 6 months to a year before a girl gets her first period. And as you get closer to your first period, the discharge may take on a brownish hue.
A couple of other symptoms some experience before their inaugural menstruation are a few facial pimples and armpit hair growth. Additional reported symptoms are cramps, headache and irritability.
If any of these signs or symptoms are occurring, then about the only thing you can really do is to stay prepared. While you wait for your first period routinely carry menstrual pads and an extra pair of underwear. And it’s advisable you continue this practice for your first year of periods because they tend to be irregular, thus hard to predict. So, carrying these items may save you a tremendous amount of future embarrassment as well.
The glaring symptom that menarch has commenced is the release of blood, which can either trickle or spill out anytime and anywhere. Hope for a trickle, but be prepared for a spill.
