Want to take a vacation centered around healthy exercise? A great place to go for this is Albuquerque, New Mexico. This city has expansive “open space” in and around an urban setting. Paved and dirt community access trails provide the means to actively move around in habitats brought to you by nature.
Albuquerque’s open spaces are set asides for the public, much of which are on the banks of the Rio Grande. There you can pursue recreational opportunities in a natural river environment that include biking, hiking, running and walking.
If mountain biking or trail running are your preferred activities, the Elena Gallegos Open Space Park (northeast corner of the city) offers miles of dirt trails. This open space is in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. So expect to sweat from a hill filled workout.
Another option for healthy play is wilderness hiking. Quick and easy access is via the tram to the peak of the Sandia Mountains. On top is an extensive trail system in a lightly used forest.
Looking to take a long walk? One option is to visit Albuquerque’s BioPark and Zoo, all for one low price. These properties provide acres of green space in which to stroll and encounter unusual stuff.
One word of caution is Albuquerque, New Mexcio, is at an elevation in excess of 5,000 feet. And taking the tram up the mountain puts you even higher, at over 10,000 feet. Health tip for traveling into these parts is to know the signs of altitude sickness. Also, you may become breathless during exercise because of the lower concentration of oxygen.
Vacate your stressful life and travel to Albuquerque for an exercise rejuvenation trip that’s life enriching.
