Billions of dollars are being spent each year on skin care products, especially anti-wrinkles creams, based on a belief they will erase wrinkles, lighten age spots, and eliminate itchy, flaky or red facial skin. By far, the simplest and cheapest skin care for keeping it healthy and young looking is to stay out of the sun.
Sunlight is a major cause of the signs of aging, such as:
- dryness
- wrinkles
- age spots
Everyone’s skin changes with age, it becomes thinner and loses fat. The underlying veins and bones become more prominent. Because the blood vessels in your dermis become more fragile, this can this lead to various signs of aging like bruising, telangiactasia, cherry angiomas and similar conditions. Large pigmented spots (referred to as age spots, liver spots, or lentigos) may also begin to appear in sun-exposed areas.
In addition, the connective tissue of your skin changes by reducing its strength and elasticity. This is known as elastosis and is especially pronounced in those sun-exposed areas. Women gradually produce less oil in the sebacous glands after menopause, hence making it difficult to keep your skin moist.
Delay of these signs of aging, age spots and wrinkles with natural “out of the sun” skin care. Nothing can completely undo sun damage, but your skin may repair itself once its protected from its harmful effects. Some claim tretinoin (Retin-A) or creams containing alpha-hydroxy acids lessen the appearance of their wrinkles, but no guarantee.
