Painful Deep Under Skin Pimple(s) Treatment

Those painfully deep pimples (acne lesions) under your skin may be nodules or cysts. If you have nodules or cysts there is treatment available by prescription.

A doctor may prescribe isotretinoin, a retinoid (vitamin A derivative) for your deep pimple, an oral drug usually taken once or twice a day with food for 15 to 20 weeks. Its action reduces the size of your oil glands so significantly less oil is produced, resulting in a decrease of bacteria and painful pimple growth.

Isotretinoin is an extremely effective medicine for deep pimples, and thus scar prevention. For most, after 15 to 20 weeks of treatment their deep acne completely or almost completely goes away.

A major disadvantage of isotretinoin is it can cause birth defects in the developing fetus of a pregnant woman. It is important that women of childbearing age are not pregnant and do not get pregnant while taking this medicine.

There have been a number of reported suicides and suicide attempts in people taking isotretinoin.  However, the connection between isotretinoin and suicide or depression is not known.

Side effects usually go away when treatment for painfully deep pimples is stopped.
