Liver cysts are sacs of fluid in your liver. Normally, having a small liver cyst or two is generally not considered a major health concern because they do not impair liver function. A cyst on liver usually causes no symptoms nor discomfort. In fact, most are only found after a medical scan of the area for some other reason.
For the most part, what causes a liver cyst is not known. However, some cysts are caused by an echinococcus parasite infection. Cysts on liver condition can be congenital, meaning you’re born with them. On rare occasions, liver cysts can be an indication of a more serious liver related health condition, like polycystic liver disease, PKD or liver cancer.
Infrequently, cysts on liver symptoms do occur. A liver cyst can grow to a size that causes upper right abdominal pain or fullness. Or should you bleed into a cyst, you might experience symptoms of sudden, sharp pain in the upper right side of your stomach and shoulder.
Routinely, liver cysts treatment is not required. In the event your cyst causes pain symptoms, then draining or removal are treating options. And treatment of a parasite caused cyst is more complex, which may involve surgical removal, aspiration and chemotherapy.
