Hives Red Itchy Bumps Caused by Skin Swelling Chemical

Hives are red, and sometimes itchy, bumps on your skin usually caused by a food allergy or a drug reaction. When you experience a hive producing allergic reaction your body releases chemicals that results in your skin swelling.

The foods that commonly cause a reaction of hives are:

  • milk
  • nuts
  • eggs
  • berries
  • tomatoes
  • chocolate

Additives and preservatives can also be your cause of hives.

Hives are very common and they’ll typically go away on their own. But if you have a serious reaction, such as difficulty breathing swollen airway, you need medicine or a shot. If this should happen, you are potentially heading toward a medical emergency of anaphylaxis.

People who have other allergies are more likely to get hives than those who do not. Some other causes for your bumpy itch may be an infection and stress.
