Capitol Reef National Park is colorful and hot. It’s situated in a desert environment, so prepare to be parched. As such, having along plenty of liquid for drinking is vital to prevent dehydration.
A refreshing aspect of this sandstone attraction is a river. Capitol Reef’s epicenter of activity is located near its banks in a desert oasis. Here you’ll find a shady spot to stretch, rest or picnic. Also within this oasis are campsites with trees.
A possible oasis delight is observing a deer (or two) taking advantage of the bounty growing in slightly cooler conditions. One appeal for the deer is a couple small orchards bearing fruit. (I caught a glimpse of one happily munching on an unripe apple!)
Hiking opportunities are available in Capitol Reef National Park. During the summer months, extreme dry heat dictates hitting the trail early and packing fluids along if you intend to trek out among the massive hued cliffs.
If your plan is to be active during your travel at Capitol Reef, the major health concerns are dehydration, sunburn and heat illness. Drink, sunblock and pacing with shady breaks are some staying healthy tips.
